I'm sorry to hear that Winnie. And I'm not surprised at the service level (or lack of it) from Apple, because a few of my friends have gone through the same crap (or worse). Based on some of the horror stories I've heard from my friends, I'm really not sure if Apple will honor their word on replacment even if you've bought your stuff directly from them online ... I know my friend didn't get hers! You're absolutely right in that they can now afford to be as unreasonable as they want because they have a huge loyal following. They, too, challenged my friends to take them to court. We as consumers do give Apple the power of monopoly in some markets. Perhaps it's time we take some of that back.

Sorry to hear about that. Any idea if that's the case if you had bought AppleCare?

I understand many retailers have very good deals on AppleCare, and after having bought two laptops that crapped out right after their respective first year warranties were up, I wouldn't buy another MacBook without it.

my condolences. epicentre mentioned a 7-day replacement period at the point of purchase (July 2009), but I didn't get to discover what that meant.

thanks for sharing, 'cos that policy is surely a little-known fact?

That really is an injustice. Maybe ordering online direct (without custom) is the only way you can be safe next time?
