And I&#039;m not surprised at the service level (or lack of it) from Apple, because a few of my friends have gone through the same crap (or worse).  Based on some of the horror stories I&#039;ve heard from my friends, I&#039;m really not sure if Apple will honor their word on replacment even if you&#039;ve bought your stuff directly from them online ... I know my friend didn&#039;t get hers!  You&#039;re absolutely right in that they can now afford to be as unreasonable as they want because they have a huge loyal following.  They, too, challenged my friends to take them to court.  We as consumers do give Apple the power of monopoly in some markets.  Perhaps it&#039;s time we take some of that back.</description>

I understand many retailers have very good deals on AppleCare, and after having bought two laptops that crapped out right after their respective first year warranties were up, I wouldn&#039;t buy another MacBook without it.</description>
